A lot of people say they’re called to do this or that. Called to a cause.
Eradicating hunger. Wiping out poverty. Writing the Great American Novel. Working with disadvantaged children. Making people laugh.
Maybe so. Maybe so. Who am I to tell them otherwise?
Me? I don’t feel called to any specific cause. I have causes I care a lot about. Yes.
But more than anything else, I feel called to make the most of my abilities.
I didn’t ask to be talented at anything. I didn’t even ask to be put in this world.
But I am talented. And here I am.
Others never get the chance to use their talents. And others are never put here at all.
I feel… not responsible. But called. I feel that someone or something or some… I don’t know… wants me to make the most of what I’ve been given. Will be disappointed if I don’t give it everything I have.
Nobody will be born just like me ever again. Nor will anybody be born just like you. Ever again.
Shouldn’t I do what only I can do? Shouldn’t I be what only I can be? Shouldn’t you?
The first step is to figure out what that is. If it involves a cause, that’s great. If it doesn’t, no matter.
Just do.
Before something catches up to you.
